The project
ARCHITECTURE AND IDENTITY DESIGN
Francois Bich commissions Multiplast to undertake the transformation of VITALIA II. The guidelines are clear. The DNA of this spectacular sailing craft must not be compromised.
The three architects Jack Michal, Frank Martin and Yann Penfornis, at the original birth of Orange 2, have now to work within these new technical constraints.
ARCHITECTURE AND IDENTITY DESIGN.
Transforming an ocean catamaran; the most powerful multihull of his time is a huge responsibility. No way to kill the boat with a huge nacelle between the two hulls that would have t considerably increased the weight of the project.
Yann Penfornis, one of the architects of the boat: "the work was to integrate the most elegantly possible nacelle housing a large square, kitchen bar, master cabin and an outdoor seating as well as all the expected comfort equipment on a ship of this size without significantly increasing the weight of the boat."
In order not to navigate of higher recovery couple than that for which the catamaran was originally conceived (240 tonnes x meters) strain gauges were integrated into the rigging. In this way, the crew always knows the forces passing into the boat and so can navigate safely at high speeds.
The whole team of Multiplast has the feeling of having given new life to this legendary catamaran without betraying the original project. A very nice sense of accomplishment
"The pleasure of this project (evokes Yann Penfornis) is to get an exceptional boat, the fastest sailing boat in the world, thanks to François Bich, informed and visionary shipowner"
The project will be validated by Patrick Sassier, Didier Ragot and Vladimir Dzalba Lyndis under the direction of its owner.
EXTerIOR DESIGN.
Daniel Domergue of Narative agency (Montreuil) with Yannick Freitas and his team were commisioned to accompany Multiplast in designing the exterior.
Their remit is to preserve the sporty exterior and character of the original catamaran while integrating elements of comfort seamlessly into the architecture.

INTERIOR DESIGN.
The interior is designed by Stéphane Lauro and his team Domicile Fixe in Vannes.
The compagny "Domicile Fixe" directed by Stéphane Lauro was in charge of the design of the interior, in collaboration with the compagny "Golfe Agencement". Golfe Agencement has strong expertise in the maritime field (development of cruise ships at the yard of St Nazaire). It is located near the construction site Multiplast.
Stephane Lauro had to devise a plan that broke from the traditional interior of the Magic Cat style which was a boat built in a different era. VITALIA II needed Stephane’s design to retain the spirit of the nautical world while offering comfort, atmosphere and attention to detail.
After several visits to multiplast, and after some preparatory meetings, François Bich made his choice.

The result is noble in keeping with maritime tradition. Rosewood veneer and stitching on leather creates an effect of light air and space.VITALIA II has maintained her integrity as a sports catamaran and her transformation has in no way compromised her performance as a formidable record breaker.
Interview of Bruno Peyron.
"I am very attached to all of my previous boats. I feel lucky and proud to have racing boats that have a chance of a second life worthy of their past, their functions and their transformations. Obviously in this instance the renovation will be daring and very good quality. A bold under taking. This will become what all observers already consider as the most beautiful and sport catamaran in the world, certainly the fastest anyway.
I recommended the choice of Vladimir was to be the skipper of VITALIA II. As with all who have sailed with me he was an exceptional sailor. We have wonderful memories together.
I think it's would be difficult to find a better captain for this boat. The sailing program is also intellectually satisfying and challenging. Vitalia II will not be glued in Saint Tropez she will travel the world. She is made for this. The size of the original boat has made this transformation possible. This will be a dream boat, a fantastic tool, for those who are competent to use it. I planned to attend to the launch.
This is probably the only race boat of this potential that was capable of such a renovation, thanks to her original size and calculations of coefficients for security at her conception. A more extreme racing wessel with less safety factors could never support this additional weight. So it's really a chance for her new life, otherwise it would not have been possible. It would be wonderful, with the agreement of M François Bich, to have a convivial meeting of the old crews of Orange 1 and Orange 2 on board VITALIA II." Bruno Peyron march 25, 2015.
