Bruno Peyron « THE RACE ":
Sports Event imagined and created by Bruno Peyron, "THE RACE: No Limit Around The World" first round the world sailing crew, nonstop and unassisted for the millennium celebration, with a scheduled departure on December 31 2000.
Its uniqueness is its appearance "no limit", sailboats are not subject to a size limit.
The design and organization of this extraordinary event took to Bruno Peyron 7 years of work, after his return from the first Jules Verne Trophy in 1993.
Planned from the beginning to allow the organization to his team, Bruno Peyron launching in parallel the organization of the event, the design and construction of a giant catamaran capable of winning the race and he intends to take a victory.
Then became the skipper of the first maxi catamaran "Club Med", but under the pressure of the partners of the event to stay in the organization, Bruno Peyron asked his friend Grant Dalton to join and replaced him for the final phase of the project "THE RACE".
Second and a third giants were launched on the same plans.
3 maxi catamaran designed by Bruno Peyron and designed with Multiplast team will end the first 3 places "THE RACE" and will beat all records ... Mission accomplished!

The second "Innovation Explorer", managed by Bruno Peyron and skipped by Loick Peyron.
The third, "Team Adventure" was sold to Cam Lewis.
The idea of Orange 2 is a result of this triple success ... to push the limits of the "possible".
ORANGE 2. THE FASTEST SAILBOAT IN THE WORLD.
On 22nd December 2003 Orange 2 emerged from the Multiplast yard as one of the largest catamarans of the time. It was designed to be the fastest yacht in the World and Orange 2’s mission was to challenge all speed records.
2004
June 26th Orange 2 competed in the Around the Isle of Wight race in 3:17’ finishing first in their handicapped series.
August 25th Bruno Peyron skippered Orange 2 embarking on an attempt at the transatlantic crew record. Although they were 31minutes and 12 seconds short of Steve Fossetts record they managed to set a new world record, by covering 706.2 miles at an average of 29.42 knots, taking the world record for distance travelled in 24 hours.
September 25th Orange 2 achieved another record for crossing the Mediterranean (Marseille-Carthage) in 17hours and 56 minutes at an average of 26.66 knots.
2005
In January Bruno Peyron, and his crew of 13 men, embarked for a record attempt to sail around the world in the Jules Verne Trophy.
The large catamaran soared forwards aided by an anticyclone situated near Ireland. The boat was at full speed, the race was on. To achieve their goal Orange 2 needed to return after sailing over 26,000 miles before March 29th at 01hr 53’ GMT, to break the Jules Verne record. A return before March 23rd 19hrs 34’52’ GMT, would give them the lap record for circumnavigating the world.
Slick navigation resulted in the catamaran, Orange 2, passing the longitude of Cape of Good Hope in less than 15 days. This spectacular performance spoke volumes for the qualities of the multihulls 37 metres.
Orange 2 engaged in a second attempt at record breaking during the Jules Verne Trophy while sailing south of Tasmania. Instead the Multiplast slashed numerous pre recorded times during their around the world journey.
Traversing the Indian Ocean took a little over 9days. Leaving in its wake the southern tip of Tasmania Bruno Peyron took just 8 days and 18hours to cross the Pacific Ocean making, yet another, astounding record. Orange 2, (Which at 37 metres is not the largest multihull in the world. It is topped by the 38 metres of Cheyenne) continued to frighten the chronometers.
In the words of skipper Bruno, after rounding the last major course waypoint Cape Horn, “The times and references are explosive. Orange 2 has gained a week and is over 2,500 miles ahead of Cheyenne!
Orange 2, the new boat, had proved herself. Crossing the finishing line on March 16th 2005 at 03:23, French time, (02h23GMT)
A staggering performance Orange 2 had circumnavigated around the world in 50days 16 hours 20 minutes, 04 seconds.
Averaging a fantastic 22.20 knots, over 21,600 miles of the official course, Orange 2 gained a victory of more than 7 days from Cheyenne in 2004, and almost 13 days from the winner of the Jules Verne TrophyGeronimo.
2006
July 2nd at 13h 00’06” Bruno Peyron and his crew of 11 set sail for a new attempt on the Atlantic record aboard the maxi-catamaran Orange 2.
With the clock against them, the time to beat was 4 days, 17 hours 28 minutes and 6 seconds.
The course was completed in 4 days, 8 hours and 24 minutes. In addition Bruno and his crew cut their previous 2004 record by sailing 766.8 miles in 24 hours at an average speed of 31.95 knots.
A new page in the history of ocean racing had been written. Once again the maxi catamaran Orange 2 had proved herself a speedy and reliable force.

- The Transatlantic.
- Circumnavigating the World.
